In a departure from our traditional full-ensemble showcases, this year’s 16th anniversary performances will center on the individual voices that make up this beloved choral group. The singers will share their own musical journey, bringing their personal touch to songs that have shaped them. Expect a stripped-down but heartfelt concert filled with gospel’s soaring harmonies, inspirational anthems, and the undeniable rhythms of reggae and soca. And of course, no Braata concert season would be complete without Caribbean folk music.
This season pays tribute to Suriname’s 50th anniversary of independence, recognizing its rich musical traditions and vibrant place in the region. Additionally, we shine a light on lesser-known Caribbean connections, highlighting the music of places like Belize and other hidden gems of the diaspora.
