New York-based cultural group Braata Singers, which has been in existence for the past 15 years, has a big date in Brooklyn, hosting “Still Standing Remount” on Oct. 26 at Holy Family Auditorium, 9719 Flatlands Ave., entrance on Conklin Avenue, in Brooklyn.

The cultural group Braata Singers has been in existence in New York City for 15 years and, during that time, they have delivered excellent choral folk performances nationally and internationally to consistent rave reviews.

Many residents, particularly those of Jamaican ancestry, went to Queens Borough Hall on Thursday, Aug. 1, to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day.

Lauderhill, FL – Following the success of the pantomime “Ole Time Sinting,” the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council is excited to present “Ring Ding & Ting” on September 7 & 8 at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. This event is a vibrant spin-off from the beloved television program “Ring Ding,” which showcased Jamaica’s folk culture under the charismatic guidance of Miss Lou.

The founder of the Caribbean cultural organization Braata Productions has taken his folk singing group off-Broadway in hopes that Caribbeans will see themselves in mainstream theater.

“The Braata Singers: Still Standing,” an Off-Broadway celebration commemorating the 15th anniversary of the beloved Caribbean cultural ensemble, will hold its final performance of Caribbean music and folklore Sunday at 5 p.m. in Manhattan at Theater 154, 154 Christopher St. in Greenwich Village.

THE BRAATA SINGERS mark their 15th Anniversary with STILL STANDING, a jubilant Off-Broadway celebration of Caribbean music and folklore. This highly theatrical concert presentation promises to be a fusion of tradition and innovation, featuring a repertoire that showcases both the cherished favorites of The Braata Singers over the past decade and a half, as well as daring new arrangements that breathe fresh life into timeless songs.

With a mission to celebrate and showcase the diverse artistic expressions of the Caribbean, Braata has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $25,000 toward covering production costs, venue fees, promotional efforts, and other essential expenses to bring an Off-Broadway production to life. This financial support aims to help Braata Productions reach a broader audience while providing Caribbean artists with a platform to share their talent and stories with global audiences.

Andrew Clarke, the Jamaican-born founder and artistic director of both The Braata Folk Singers and Braata Productions, described the Christmas Grand Market 2023 as “an undeniable triumph," with strong audience turnout across Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. Despite adverse weather conditions, Braata Productions brought the Caribbean holiday spirit to life through traditional foods, arts and crafts, and cultural performances.

BRAATA PRODUCTIONS has announced this year's BANKRA, a free, multidisciplinary Caribbean Culture Festival celebrating Dominica, Bahamas and St. Kitts & Nevis the three islands that will be centered with this year's Braata programming, and as always Jamaica.

Led by Executive Director Andrew Clarke and Joel Edwards, The Braata Folk Singers excitedly present 'CARIBBEAN BLEND,' a tailored production featuring a new musical repertoire that celebrates the independence milestones and musical heritage of Dominica, The Bahamas, and St. Kitts and Nevis. The program serves as a stepping stone into the upcoming season, celebrating the remarkable musical milestones of each nation while looking back and moving forward.

Karl O'Brian Williams' poem, THE BLACK THAT I AM, blossoms into a though-provoking, intimate, and powerful theatrical production directed by Will Brown and presented by Braata Productions. The ensemble production weaves monologues, movement, and music to delve into the intersections of Black identity, heritage, belonging, sexuality, and lived experience across the diaspora.
