A Caribbean vocal ensemble, the Braata Folk Singers, expanded their repertoire in 2021, having not performed a full concert season in over five years, but managed a stellar comeback on the heels of the pandemic. At the time, return to in person performance was very much uncharted territory; however, a rather brave decision was made, one that has not been regretted since!
The show, titled “Rebirth” was a deliberate, choiced metaphor with the world emerging from the pandemic; two years later, we seem to be rebirthing as a world as we encounter strain after strain of COVID and adjust to living in the new norm. The New York-based group, from the onset, focused primarily on showcasing and preserving Caribbean folk music, but now performs inspirational and reggae songs. The Braata Folk Singers, under the creative direction of Jamaican born actor, singer, and producer Andrew Clarke, and the musical direction of Joel Edwards, will once again present a diverse array of arrangements. Armed with brand new songs with a tailored focus on celebrating the 45th independence of the nature isle of Dominica, 50th year of independence for the Islands of the Bahamas and the 40th independence St. Kitts & Nevis, the upcoming season is designed to celebrate some of the most remarkable musical milestones of each of these nations - looking back while also moving forward.
